good on you

What is this?

Why do people keep saying “good on you?”

Whatever happened to “good for you?”

Take this article for example: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-08-01/chelsea-clinton-wedding-why-america-needed-it/?om_rid=EDv1Zmce_markeramp;om_mid=_BMVrhwB8Q62Z0i&

And I have seen this ALL over facebook.  People writing “good on you” to one another. At first I thought it was Australian.  And then I thought it was British and Australian.  But in an American periodical?  GOOD ON YOU?!?!!?

I researched the author and it turns out she’s from England.  Phew.  Close call.  I just hope my American friends don’t start going around saying this.
